Branson Blitz ’16

Had reservations for the normal period of Friday – Sunday morning and read they started the activities Thursday, 4/14.  Why not!  Dave Carter accompanied me over via the back roads.  Heard of inclement weather pending, but pushed on in via Noel and the fun roads.BB  One of those intersections, I lost Dave.  He high-sided it on the gravel on a T intersection and several people stopped to get him back up and running before I got there.  He injured his ankle and couldn’t support himself when stopped to put down the side stand.  Thus the remainder of the weekend was to get from A to B without stopping. Arkansas Campout Returns for 2016

Last year the Natural State Rally was called off due to heavy rains. The campground on the Arkansas River was under water for several weeks in 2015, so organizers cancelled the event. This year the casual gathering near Morrillton, Arkansas returns. Occurring at a Corps of Engineers park next to Lock and Dam #9, on the Northeast side of the Arkansas River, south of Morrillton.

Last Meeting
Getting into the seasonal holidays, the December meeting was scrubbed.

Upcoming Events
The lists have been compiled, the R.S.V.P.s are being setup in MailChimp for a count to our hosts on those attending our dinner on an upcoming February Saturday evening, not to conflict with big sports events.  Look for an invite to show up in your email box.  Current and long term and year past members will be invited.

New Stuff

Take a look at BMW Motorrad; they have displayed two innovations at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in UntitledLas Vegas on 6-9 January 2016. Laser light for motorcycles and a helmet with a head-up display will be presented, setting new standards of motorcycle safety, along with a technical outlook of how they may be employed in series models of the future. More.

I’m waiting for the phaser kit for the car pulling out in front of me.

Another manufacturer already out with a heads-up rear view camera is Skully.  Their grand and a half helmet on their web site shows a display with speed, view out the back, and GPS instructions incorporated within the helmet’s electronics.  Check out their video of a rider on a MotoGuzzi. Might be beneficial to purchase extended warranties on these bad boys.

Where to go – Club wise

I’m going to be out of town, last minute notice, so I haven’t scheduled a meeting.  The reservation at the Library on Garnett was canceled.  Read further for more details.

Last Meeting
I think about 9 of us showed up at 11th & Yale, Tally’s Cafe.  We had a room for about 30, so we took up about 1 long table and part of another.  They treated us very well, and if they’ll have us back, seems like a good place to meet.  Paula and I went to Ike’s on 11th on a different night across from Hillcrest and found the Corvette club meets there in a room off the normal dining area.  When a parking lot fills with Chevys.   I like Ike’s, and maybe once a month would fill my craving.  That other club, hits restaurants over in Arkansas and Missouri and south Tulsa during their rides.  Dave wishes to invite airhead experts to come over and identify all of his 8 bikes. Oark for Lunch – Oct 17

Breakfast Ride— Saturday, October 17th

While the weather is good, let’s take advantage.

Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 5.38.05 PMOf the multitude of items you/we can do while it is warm is take off on a day ride to Arkansas to the little restaurant every rider knows at Oark. I’ve thrown something together and showing it here. I’ve yet to
master the Garmin tools to down/upload the data to a GPS, but the Google map can be viewed below for mile to mile detail. The plan was to stay off any 4 lanes. Afterwards, you’re on your own.

For something a little different, I’ve scheduled a fast food joint for our October meeting.   Burger King at the corner of 21st & S. Sheridan on the NW corner.  Seven pm on Tuesday, October the 13th, 2030 S. Sheridan.  They have a glassed in meeting room with booths and tables  for about 20. We should feel like a fishbowl.

Hope MOA members have gotten their annual mileage closing certificate signed on Sunday the 11th since that is/was the official ending date.  Bring your forms with the distance on your bikes’ ODOs and we’ll have a sign-a-thon. Continue reading October 2015 Newsletter

Same o, same o, Tuesday, September 8 at 7 pm, Martin Regional, 2601 S Garnett.  They have bike locks for your convenience.  Anyone for Mexican prior at 6?  They really fill a plate full at Casa San Marcos just up the street at 2170 Garnett next to the car wash.  That would be the west side.

I’ve thrown out an email to officers regarding the long awaited picnic, and was pondering October 17th or 24th, both Saturdays.  Before is Falling Leaf, afterward is Halloween.  Myron and Norma Jo did a bang up job a couple of years ago at Spavinaw and the club should have contributed more toward their efforts.  I’ll push a more group effort.
