About 30 riders gathered near Morrilton, AR last month for the Natural State Campout. This rally is really a casual get-together at Cherokee Park on the Arkansas River.
It’s so casual, there is no registration fee. Plus, since the electricity was off at the shelter, the park manager decided not to charge any camping fees! So we proceeded to set up our tents and enjoy the scenery.

The local Arkansas club did a great job making everyone feel welcome. The park is adjacent to a navigational lock & dam that causes the river to appear to be rushing past. It’s actually just funneling by, but the sound makes for great nights sleep!
Saturday we explored the twisty roads that Arkansas is so famous for. The ride up Mount Nebo is a challenging 18% grade and full of tight switchbacks. Later we even happened upon an automotive museum near Petit Jean State Park. The weather was perfect and the roads were clear– it was a great day of riding.
I’m glad I was able to attend the Natural State Campout. I plan to return next year!
