Club Ride: Pawnee Steam Show

Join us for a ride to Pawnee on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The official title is the Oklahoma Steam & Gas Engine Show, and it’s one of the largest exhibitions of steam-powered tractors in the Southwest. But it’s really much more than that.

It's not just tractors! Jackie Brown discovers a display of antique motorcycle in Pawnee.
It’s not just tractors! Jackie Brown discovers a display of antique motorcycles in Pawnee.

It’s a living exhibit. It’s a celebration of Americana, with all manner of antiques on display and in action. Steam boilers power a machine shop and a sawmill that makes real cedar shingles. The familiar sound of an oil well’s hit-or-miss engine echoes across the grounds. Threshing machines separate grain. Blacksmiths pound on steel. It’s a window on a world not so long ago- but very different from today.

Gearheads will love the grease and soot and smoke. But there’s also a flea market, blacksmiths, a quilting exhibit and, a crowd favorite, the scale model hay baler…. making miniature hay bales!

Ride to Pawnee Steam Show May 3, 2014

SportyGroup ride will meet at the the Quik Trip on Gilcrease Museum Road and head west on US-412 at 9:0 AM. Note, we will leave at 9:00 AM. So if you need to gas up or coffee up or dress up or whatever arrive earlier! If you’d prefer to meet us there look for us at the Pawnee County Fairgrounds around 11:00 AM. We’ll try to park in the south parking area.

I will lead the group ride ride along the backroads we followed for a Two Wheel Oklahoma episode that featured Pawnee. There will be three photo opps along the way that you won’t want to miss! We’ll plan on having lunch at the show, then anyone interested can visit the Pawnee Bill Museum.

Admission to the show is $10. So make plans to come along and enjoy the day. It’s a great Oklahoma event and always a fun time. For more information on the show visit the Oklahoma Steam Threshing & Gas Engine Association. View photos and more on Facebook.

Here’s a map showing our route and photo stops along the way (plus a “non gravel” route with no stops). You can view the map full size.
